Downsend School Boys-U8A vs  Football Tournament @ KCS Wimbledon
On: Friday, 12 Oct 2018
Venue: Away

On Friday, the under 8 A' Footballer team traveled over to Kings College, Wimbledon for the annual Centenary Cup. The boys were slow off the mark and succumbed to a 0-3 loss in their first game against Wetherby Prep School. They quickly recognised they weren't showing their best Football and looked to rectify this in their next game versus Kings House. Despite dominating the possession and creating the best chances of the game, the game finished 0-0. As we went into the last game of the group stage, the boys finally found their rhythm and secured a 1-0 Victory against Rokeby. Moving through to the Plate competition for the knock-out rounds; in the last 16 we beat Cranmore B's 3-0, beat Kings' House 1-0 in the Quarter Final and then we met Rokeby in the Semi Final. In what was a very close game, it was 0-0 at full time which meant penalties to decide the finalists. The boys kept their composure, striking the penalties with confidence, sending them through to the Plate Final against Cranmore A's. The level of football being played was fantastic with both teams having chances, Downsend went 1-0 up only for Cranmore to respond a minute later and tie the game 1-1. We found ourselves in another penalty shoot out, unfortunately losing 3-2. However, throughout the tournament, despite a slow start, the boys played some really creative football and should be proud of their efforts. Well done to: Stanley D, Edward V, Kobi Johnson, Rory S, Sam H, Dylan W and Jake D.
