Downsend School Boys-U7A vs  Cranmore Tournament
On: Saturday, 21 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

The U7’s embarked on their Downsend sporting careers Saturday morning at Cranmore School in the annual U7 invitational event. The weather was set fine and the boys began their day against a very strong Wimbledon Common side. After the early struggles, the goalkeeper in Reggie B and defence in Rafferty L settled down and Downsend improved on their first half showing and dominated the second half but were unable to make a breakthrough despite great attacking endeavour by both Harry E and James S.

Our second game against Cumnor House was a very close encounter and despite the visitors taking an early lead, the Downsend boys showed huge promise in a brilliant attacking display whilst staying very resolute in defence. Edward C was superb, keeping a clean sheet in the second half and despite numerous shots on goal by Harry J, Downsend were unable to break down the defence and unfortunately lost.

The following game against Rokeby the Under 7’s fought back brilliantly after conceding an early goal and with a brilliant move that involved Oscar S and Harry J, with the ball eventually breaking to James S who was fouled in the box. James S dusted himself off and dispatched the penalty with ease to bring Downsend level. Unfortunately neither team could find a winner and the points were shared.

Downsend couldn’t improve in their last game and unfortunately they ran out of energy and Cranmore showed a killer instinct in front of goal to put the game out of sight within the first half. The boys worked their socks off to get back in the game but were up against a superb Cranmore keeper who kept the attack at bay.

Well done to everybody that took part. The boys will be a lot stronger for the experience and will be raring to write the wrongs of this tournament later in the term. Many thanks to all the parents for giving up their time to support on a beautiful Saturday morning
